Help for the construction of a youth centre
(With photo of a view of the parish)
Donetsk, with a population of around 1.5 million souls, is the third largest city in Ukraine and lies in the southeast of the country. So far, however, there are just two Catholic parishes here. During the Soviet era the city was very much "russified", and as a result working with the children and grandchildren of Catholics who were forcibly resettled is not an easy thing to organise. For nine years now their parish priest, Father Rostyslav Mukhovskyi has been hard at work and he is especially committed to helping youth. He wants to open a spiritual centre for young people, where retreats can be held and other educational opportunities offered. However, he himself has precious few resources - for his Byzantine-rite Ukrainian Catholic Church is a minority community in this part of the country - and so he has turned to the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for help to set up this youth centre.
ACN has promised a grant of $23,000. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web: www.aidtochurch.org
