Hello Support,
How are you? First a question, can things be set-up such that the ‘cloned line’ ONLY rings if the primary line is busy? There must be, or the upcoming Exec/Teen line offering would not be doable. Please do tell.
Second, here is the phone I am using: http://www.telephonemagic.com/nortel_venture_3_phone.htm
It has a 3-line proprietary wiring block (3 incoming ports, & 1 outgoing port) it uses as the connection point for all incoming lines. It then has a single cord which connects the block to the phone. (While mine is an older analog version, there is a newer VoIP version available: http://www.telephonemagic.com/venture-ip-phone-system/venture-ip-phone-system.htm)
I am guessing that each port on the block is capable of accepting input from any pin pair of the 3 pairs of twisted pairs associated with an RJ-11 jack. The reason for this is that while I can only plug one line at a time into any one incoming port, it doesn’t seem to matter if I plug the line from a phone jack which is wired to use solely the first twisted pair into port 1, 2, or 3, it will ring on whichever line into which I plug it. The same is true when using a line from a second jack that has been configured to use twisted pair #2 or a third jack configured to use twisted pair #3.
The ONLY problem I am having using a PP primary line and a PP ‘cloned line’ with this phone (I have GS phone port #1 feeding into the wiring block port for line 1, and GS phone port #2 feeding into the wiring block port for line 2 – line 3 is being fed by a non-PP VoIP line.) is that whenever I enable a ring tone on one of the PP lines (line 1 or line 2 – line 3 will ring just fine if I wish it to do so), but have the other line set to ‘silent’, the indicator lights for both line 1 & line 2 (as well as the ‘master’ indicator light at the top of the phone) will signal an incoming call on each of the lines, and both lines are capable of receiving (answering) the incoming call, but the ring function on the ring-enabled line will not ring except for a short, small burp of a ring. On some occasions, if I do not answer the call, using either line 1 or line 2 - remember, regardless of the ringer settings and configurations, I can pick up and answer incoming calls using either line with only a minor bit of difficulty, but if I instead let the call go to VM, when I next pick up either of the 1st two lines, or even the third non-PP VoIP line, I get no dial tone until I power down the phone and then plug it back in. It will then resume normal function.
