Even I don't understand Shawn's response :-)
The Message button on your 7731 will display who left the message when you press the button. It will continue to step through the numbers every time you press it. If you pick up the handset or presss SP-PHONE when the number is displayed, it will dial it.
A *700+your ext will clear all messages in the phone. *702 still dials the last number to leave a message, and *701/700 + ext will still set/cancel a message at another phone. Of course pressing the MESSAGE buttone after you dial the other extension is the same as *701+ext, but that's tough to do from a single line set.
