Cinfiguring a KX-TD1232

I want to replace a KX-T7453 (corded) with a KX-TD7896 (cordless) phone. The PBX is a KX-TD1232. I've gone through the headset menu and selected the correct PBX setting. When someone calls the house the extension (EXT 121) rings and you see the caller ID info, but you can't talk to them or hear them, and there is no dial tone when the phone is idle. What am I doing wrong?
