(1) The SLT only uses two wires, so the extra wires won't do anything.
(2) Change the programming so either phone connects to intercom when the handset is picked up. When you're using a system phone, press a line button and dial hands-free (the "normal" way to use a modern phone). To make an outside call with the SLT, press 9 for the first available line, or 81 for line 1, 82 for line 2.
(3) So, don't use HFAB with a PT sharing an extension with an SLT. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes not. It may depend on the characteristics of the SLT.
