Posted by Ken on January 27, 2006, 7:35 am One problem is PORT and how each system (pbx/Voicemail) uses them. Example - TAW supports 4 voicemail ports (DPT)but each physical (line cord) supports 2 ports but they are coded as only 1. Why? I understand how you can get 2 calls over one connection (NORTEL works similar using ISDN BRIs but it says 2 ports per connection)but why do they refer to this as 1 port when the voicemail and PBX see this as 2 ports?
An observation.
I have worked and used many systems and have found Panasonic's use of the same terms between systems confusing.
When you use the trace feature in the TVA you can trace ports 1 and 2 but when you look at the software only port 1 is connected, very confusing.
When you look at the TAW you only setup one port per connection so you would think this is one port but again it supports two calls (DPT).
I understand the TAW supports other types of inteface connections to voicemail so then the port versus calls makes sense (1 to 1) but since these are both Panasonic products they should be more consistant on how they connect regarding the terms used and how they work. They should have the software know when using DPT that each connection equals 2 ports/calls and state so when programming ( DPT port versus ??? port).
These systems are supposed by installed and used by "regular" people not Telecom professionals but I think this would confuse anyone.
Just my own thoughts.
