KX-TA624 Phone Feature

I am trying to program features on proprietary phones on the KXTA624. When trying to program speed-dialing or One-touch Dialing the 1st 2 digits are being dropped. ie - program in the number 848-5678 - then retrieve it in the dial sequence it only dials 85678
does anyone know what's up???
otherwise the system works fine
