Tonight there was a fire in the apt. building behind mine. Everyone (as far as I know) was okay. But I always find it really amazing to watch Firefighters in action. They are standing on the roof using axes to vent the fire inside while all around them the roof is burning. You can see the flashlights of the firemen and women that are inside with the fire and as windows explode you see their faces unwavering in their cause. Then water explodes through the roof- chunks of burning debris fly off in random directions. They used axes to knock down the outside walls and you could see them run out the front door hearing the alarms go off on their oxygen tanks while others wearing new tanks run in to replace them. As soon as they are outside they grab new tanks and wait for their turn to charge back inside...
Yet, in the middle of all this a fireman took the time as he passed my son to smile and say, "Hey partner! How are you?" In all my life I will never forget that man's ashen face smiling down at my son.
