This talk of pre season friendlies paying for KW/SC wages is daft.
I don't know what the level of full price + concessions is but let's say average price paid per person is £6. You need to take VAT off so £5. 6000 through the gate for the friendlies last year so £30,000. High profile teams usually don't play for free so will be taking a cut of the gate. Be generous and say a third so that's down to £20,000.
Let's assume this year without KW/SC contacts we play just Sheff Utd, Chesterfield and Burton. We prob only get 2000 through the gate. So £10,000. Take off a third and £6,500-ish.
So a £13,500 difference (and that's on a worst case assuming there is that big a difference between the friendlies this year).
Unless KW and SC were only on 6 grand a year it is just not true to say the friendlies alone paid their wages or even came anywhere near.
