His heart no longer ached because he knew he could never get Saphira to love him the way that he loved her. It still hurt, sometimes he still wanted to throttle Alshain, to banish him but he knew that doing that he would lose the creature he loved most. No, now his heart ached for a different reason. It ached for Solira. It ached for the one thing that he loved most in the whole world, even more than Saphira and Ariel, even more than his own self-preservation. It was more a part of him than the blood in his veins. Sometimes he wondered if there was even blood that ran through him or if it was salt-water, blue-gray. A small smile curled his lips as he thought of it.
He stretched his mind out from his body, out to check on Kolun and Ariel who were both out amongst the waves, playing within the salty waters. Another smile curled his lips as he listened to their thoughts. They shared just as much as Kolun and Marshall did. He wondered if Ariel familiar would be a sea otter like his and knew that it was a probably. She was such a part of the ocean that only the fishes were more at home there. Then again maybe she'd charm something else. He knew that she could do anything she put her mind too. She was his beautiful daughter, so innocent and carefree.
He bumped into the other mare, having pushed through the sparse trees that were growing, getting ready for winter again and he grunted. It hadn't hurt, the sand shifted beneath his hooves as he backed up a step. "I apologize Magwin. I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. My mind was somewhere else." He smiled sheepishly, realizing that he had said her name without her introduction. He winced. "Sorry. I'm Marshall. I only do that when I'm not thinking about it." And he hoped her next thoughts were overwhelmed by his sudden ability to read her mind.
