He had been by himself for too long.
Solira had suffered because of his lack of response, because he had failed to motivate the members. He came down from his high sea-side cliffs, now walking along the ocean's side. The water lapped lightly at his hooves his nose just barely above the water as he huffed. He raised his head to look, wondering briefly where his daughter was. He figured that she was within the sea and only when Kolun came like a splash from the water with panic in his eyes did he stop and stare. "Kolun, what is it?" Concern laced his words, his head at the otter's level. "Get out of the water Marshall!" He did as he was told without a thought, stepping out of the waves until they no longer touched him. "What? what is happening?" He asked. The sea otter was beside himself, the panic clearly in his eyes and he did his slither-hop-walk over out of the water. "If Ariel is in the water get her out now! The Elementals have chosen their punishement." Those words were enough. With both his mind, his voice, and his element he called to them. "SAPHIRA, ARIEL; GET OUT." The water suddenly came alive, pushing his very wet and unhappy daughter from the waves.
"Dad, what is going on?" She said with a rebellious streak in her eyes as she sauntered up to him. He could only gape momentarily at her. Where was his young daughter? This girl was almost a mare. And gods she looked so much like her mother. He recovered himself. "The Elementals...." He trailed off looking at the water as suddenly it started to boil. He desperately hoped Saphira had made it. "Oh my god." He whispered. Ariel turned to look into the ocean and was shocked by what she saw. This would be the first time she would feel physical pain and Marshall was saddened by the sorrow that he could do nothing about it. It was then that he smelt the smoke and gazed to the horizon where the flames could already be seen dancing across Solira. He turned to her suddenly. "This is going to hurt daughter. I am sorry." He gazed at her sadly, nuzzling her close and then stepping back. "I would tell you to find a place that the fire and water could not burn you, but I know you will sneak out. So I need you to help as many as you can. If you cannot find your way back to my side and when it is over we will find the rest." She nodded and then took off down the sands, spreading the word.
He turned and looked back at the fire, looking down at Kolun. "I am sorry my friend. I will heal you when this is over." The otter nodded and Marshall kneeled down briefly so his friend could have a place to ride. "Hold tight." He said aloud and went down the sand at a gallop, his mind calmly telling everyone that he saw or could feel what was happening. He didn't want anyone to die.
The flames were sudden and they leapt out at him, suddenly entangling him and strangling his lungs. He coughed hoarsely, staggering in his gait. He was surrounded with flames, he felt them licking at his legs, burning as they went. He screamed a challenge to the flames, to the Elementals in general. He reared against them, felt the flames lick against his belly. When he landed he felt his legs buckle and Kolun go tumbling off his back. When the pain became too intense he could do nothing and so he passed out.
He felt the prickles and tears of pain all through his body as he woke and immediately he searched for Kolun. "Kolun..." He sputtered, throwing his legs out and holding back a cry of pain as he somehow managed to make it to his feet. His whole body still felt like it was on fire and he gasped for air into lungs that were scorched and burned. His voice was raspy and he went to the limp form of his familiar. He lowered his lips and touched the burnt skin of the sea otter. A light blue light flowed from his lips and into the otter. After a few seconds Kolun's eyes fluttered open and he could feel the healing magics coursing through his body. It would take a couple of days before he was completely healed but he could walk down without the agony of burns. Kolun looked up at the stallion, seeing where his skin had become blue green in protection of itself and where the fire had burned him, setting black skin upon the blue-green. Most of it was upon Marshall's legs and he sighed softly. "Oh my friend." The otter tried to offer comfort but couldn't even crawl upon his back and so just trailed along.
Marshall slowly started walking, healing his own self as he went. He sent that miracle light through where the skin burned and after only a few steps he could step easier, though it still ached. He found Ariel upon his way, her own body having not fared much better than his own. And he healed her until she could move without so much pain, though again it would take a few days before she was healed completely; within and without. She awoke with pain in her blue eyes and he ached to touch her but didn't want to hurt her, so he didn't and just huffed softly.
She followed along behind him as he briefly came upon Altair and Edgar. He looked sadly at Altair. "I cannot heal you friend. I am sorry." The weakness that Air had to Fire was something he couldn't heal and it made him sad. He looked at Edgar though and touched him briefly, that light blue light chasing away most of the pain like a balm. "You injuries should heal within a few days." He smiled slightly and then moved off. He found Huyana next and healed what he could, taking away the pain. Ariel rushed forwards and stretched her lips out briefly to touch the shell. "Huy!" She saw the pain in her eyes. "Oh Huy, I'm so sorry!"
Marshall left his daughter there and slowly continued through what injuries he found on others. He sighed softly and stopped once to look around. There was no grass and no water. They had no allies. Desreal would have to be the place to go until Earth and Water horses could regrow. He moved off to the side, acknowledging what Altair had said after he had made his way back to him. He raised his voice, though it was still raspy. "Altair is right. We'll have to find food and water in Desreal until we can regrow and purify our food and water."
Edgar's question rang next. "That was our punishment." He said sadly, taking a long look at the stallion. He said nothing else though, his throat raw feeling still and settled in to wait for others.
