and i've seen them overlooking god in their own essence.
The sea far surpasses Nieve’s expectations. She thought the ocean would be quiet, like Andarin, with its mysterious forests and great mountain-eyes; but no. The ocean, by comparison, was cacophony of noise and excitement, and despite herself, little awkward Nieve finds herself both awestruck, frightened, and enthralled all in the same breath.
She dances, bouncing cheerfully by her Wonderpony, all sarcasm and cynicism laid aside for once; she doesn’t leave the varnish mare’s side, just ghosts along like a shadow, all slim lines and clean (if awkward) angles. She doesn’t say much while Lycoris meets with other horses, just watches quietly – she doesn’t introduce herself, hanging back a few steps, idly toying with her wind and earth and pretending herself invisible; it seems to work, because no one comments on her, and once they’re gone, she drifts back to the cheerful mare’s side, a small smile curving her lips.
For once, there’s a sparkle in those dark, dark grey eyes.
“I like it here,” she says softly, which could be laughable given her anti-social action, but she’s spent the time Lycoris was talking to study the Ocean, examining the power in the place and coaxing a small anemone to grow in her mane; she almost clatters with the seashells she’s used vine and wind to manipulate into her mane and tail.
She doesn’t ask if they can stay – she knows they can’t, knows her blood sings even louder in Andarin, but it is a nice respite. “The air smells strange,” she comments, tipping her face to the breeze; her air spins around her, and, laughing, she turns to Lycoris. “Will you play in the ocean with me?” she asks, a little shyly, but confidently, she hopes the mare will.
She’d hate to do it alone.
[bah. Sorry for the waiiit. :/]
