I discovered that my castles stand
upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
It’s a good thing he can’t hear what’s going through her thoughts.
He would probably suffer cardiac arrest and die. Again.
Instead, he only stands there with her, the winds swirling aimlessly underneath him, a strong silver sentinel. He can feel the tremendous power inside of her, the pulsations of strength that strive constantly against her inexorably strong will to corrupt her. The fact that everyone is being so unreasonable can’t help; Alshain doesn’t want to lend a thought to them.
He leans back against her, supporting her, resting his dark muzzle in her windblown mane.
“We’ll stop it,” he says, and as he says it he feels a conviction in his heart even stronger than anything he’s known before.
“Somehow, we’ll find a way. I’ll find Relics. If they’ve already been found, I’ll take Relics.” there’s often a thin line between rationality and passion and Alshain oscillates across said line as frequently as the Winds themselves change direction. Perhaps there is a correlation there – he is, in a sense, the embodiment of his own Twisterblade. He closes his eyes, draws her closer to him. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Vaguely he remembers his touch with the impossible – the bright lights, the soaring clouds and the inevitable, eternal warmth… the restfulness, the brightness… and the wings, the flight…
“We’ve bested Death before. There’s nothing that will defeat us.”
It seems that there are few adversaries left for them to face. The Elements’ evil is just going to have to be another – and probably not the last.
That was when I ruled the world
