It was rare that Marshall forgot a face but she was not like the rest. He touched her skin trying to draw memories and wonder why she felt familiar but wasn’t. His eyes creased in annoyance but not at her. He only smiled at her, always in reassurance as if he was trying to tell her he would get there but it might take a minute. He tilted his head curiously at her, that smile still in place when he answered her words. “Ah, I am well. Always more worried about others than I should be about myself.” He paused looking at her. “Like you for instance. I worry that I know you but have forgotten and that would indeed be a travesty. I do not forget.” His smile faded slightly as a sudden image of Notte exploded into his head and he shook it slightly. “Irene.”
He stumbled back onto track, smiling at her as if she had made his whole world brighter. “There, now I remember.” Though the details were foggy, he still knew her face and her name, even the shape of her body; all things he usually filed away. “The ocean is treating me just fine. How is she treating you?” He questions honestly, knowing that some times it was harder to cope here than it should be. The sea was a fickle mistress and he knew that better than others sometimes, having been within the waves when a nasty squall had come in off the ocean. He had seen the waters twist and roll within themselves, not to mention the debris that had been upon the sandy shore. “How is Notte?” He says after a second, quietly.
