Marshall was beneath the waves when he felt the pull of water that was his and yet wasn’t. He surfaced, gill still submerged beneath the water so he could breathe. He took a look in the direction it came from and saw her coming, saw her white and black and blue all mixed together. He went back beneath the waves, those butterflies he always got bumping around in his stomach. He took a deep under water breath, bubbles floating upwards as he hovered beneath the surface and yet not quite deep amongst the salty waters. Finally he surfaced, changing his shape and willing his sea serpent friend to carry him.
He was just as tall as she was, using the waters to their advantages and he could say nothing when she came up. He had to keep the love he felt for her hidden, deep behind the dark recesses of his eyes so she could not see it. He knew she hadn’t forgotten, knew that she would remember just as he would remember. He sighed softly before she came too close, taking a deep breath and willing things to go smoothly. But he did smile when she got closer, smiled in that way that he only did for her. “Saphira.” He said softly, inhaling her scent of sea water, air, and lightning. He saw her new scar and his eyes darkened. “Saphira.” He said with a different imploring and yet dark tone. His voice said what he did not want to say, What had happened?
But then she spoke and his worries for the other were put on the back burner so to speak. He moved closer to her, running his lips across her neck, wanting to do more to pull her close in a tight hug but he didn’t. He would leave that up to her. Anything more that this soft kiss against her skin she would have to do, she knew that. “You were meant to come back to Solira. Solira is your home and without you, she was empty.” He did not mention his heart. “Do not fear Saphira, things will get worse before they better. Perhaps even now they are on the mend.” He says in a soft voice against her skin and closes his eyes for a moment as his heart began to ache. He had to step away a minute, step away from her touch and his touch to her. He smiled reassuringly. “Please tell me.” He said again, dipping his eyes and head towards the new scar.
