And for some inexplicable reason she was drawn towards it - as if he was pulling her back in, despite her better judgment knowing that wouldn't be the case (he'd used her once and he wasn't likely to want to do so again) but some part of her (a sick twisted part perhaps) felt the pull. Maybe she just hadn't managed to resolve all of her issues surrounding him or something. mc caitríona

I'll give you a summer you can't repeat;
no strings, just warm summer rain
Even despite the evil sneer across his face and the cold eyes that seemed to bore into Saphira and Marshall she could only see him being horrified by Aretria being dumped in front of him when she had first been born. She's not stupid or silly, she knows he's not a saint, in fact he's far from it - but she knows he isn't as evil or mean spirited as he projects he is. She's never even entertained such foolish notions to believe he cared about her - she thinks he cared about Aretria but she wouldn't bet anything extremely valuable or worthwhile that he really did.
She watched him leave with a slight aching inside, with him gone there was nothing left to remind her of Aretria. Her lightning was his lightning and in a strange way it had become comforting to know it was still about, still lingering in the ocean breeze. Their faces and smells mingling into one in her mind, her pain of losing Aretria still raw and knowing she never had traz to begin with (something which had never hurt at the time) all of a sudden was remarkably painful. Her fire burned brightly as if it could heal her pain away through its warmth but all it does it want to scream out loud to make someone hear her and make everything alright again. Instead she just whispers (barely audibly) "traz..." before she forces herself even closer, needing to feel the familiar lightning despite all the pain it caused - deep down perhaps she really is that masochistic after all.
But then he's gone leaving only smoking tendrils and burnt sand in his wake and as messed up as it all is she can't help the loss she feels for something she never really had, a whispered "goodbye" seemed to be echoing loudly in her head.
