Ghosts of Desdemona’s past ran through the mist. She stood there, hopeless, statuesque, as the memories she worked so hard to suppress frolicked through the mist. She didn’t bother looking at their faces; it would only escalate the pain. There’s no telling how long she stood on the beach of Solira, staring blankly through the mist, hallucinated horses flickering in and out of her vision, some of them angry, some as friendly as they had been before The Day. The Day Desdemona’s world fell out from under her, the day her heart was irreparably broken. Then she saw her. Helena, alive and well, walking through the mist towards her. She was as beautiful as Desdemona could ever have imagined, her ebony coat glistening with the sun’s imagined rays. She said something but her words did not reach Desdemona, she was so happy, the mists seemingly disappeared and she was back to the plains of her old home. Then Helena bumped into her. The sand beneath her feet shifted as she regained her balance. As she looked back into Helena’s eyes, she was engulfed with hatred so carnal for Helena’s beautiful eyes had changed to the horrible, black eyes of her father, Yttemir. The scream that then exited the orifices of Desdemona’s throat could pierce the eardrums of the deaf. He ruined her life, coming here was the last mistake he would make. Crimson anger flashed in Desdemona’s eyes as she reared upon her hind legs, striking the air until her right hoof made contact with Yttemir’s skull with the most satisfying crack.
