Familiars were real animals with lives of their own despite what man thought. They became connected with a scholar only after that scholar became a seer. Kolun was not invisible, could not even think of turning invisible unless you counted beneath the water where Kolun was so quick sometimes he could hide in a bed of seaweed and you would never know where he went. Kolun, as if hearing Ill’s thoughts, awoke from his ball of fur and stared at the other stallion sleepily. He chattered to him, though only Marshall knew what he was saying. With a smile, he translated. “Kolun finds you interesting and he says hi.”
Marshall nosed the fluff of Kolun. Go back to sleep Kolun. The sea otter, happily ready to oblige hid his face within his fur and was soon sleeping peacefully. Marshall knew that everyone knew more about one thing than someone else. So it didn’t bother him that Ill knew nothing of Legend. He figured that there was something to the stallion that made him that way. Marshall was a well of information when he so chose to be. Today just happened to be a day. “I suggest finding the element that seems to be the missing part of you. Choose something that seems to call your name.” And he drifted off into his thoughts momentarily, thinking of when he had chosen Water.
