It was starting to look that way. Solira seemed to have a boisterous set of politics and politcals, full of dark pasts and vehement futures. Huyana had never been one to muddle into a herd’s deeper affairs, even in the Path where the herds were smaller and easier to understand. But then, maybe that stature is what made their politics so disinteresting and simple in the first place; but still Huyana did not feel inclined to delve too deeply into the matters of Solira. Individuals are what interested her, not the lands or their silly struggles.
”There is always war, in all places.” Huyana murmured with a mix of apologetic sadness. An apology that her mother’s efforts failed, sadness at the honesty of the statement. War, battles, fighting, death- it did not plague Huyana, it did not follow her and she did not seek it. If required she would participate in it, but all in all she was indifferent to all the battles. But she accepted them, because they were in some cases, a necessity. Idiots don’t reason well.
”Marshall.” Huyana brightened at the name, eyes lighting up as her brain poked into the file she had on him. It was small yet, meager. But Huyana would come to learn more about him, so she withheld her judgments yet. ”I remember seeing him in the group welcoming Nicodemus.” Nicodemus. He fascinated her of all that she had run across thus far in Solira, along with Choke and Ozymandias- though she knew significantly less of those two and felt learning more of them might be more of a challenge.
Ears flicked slightly, maintaining their attention upon Courage as she spoke. It was surprising to Huyana, how easily she spoke of so many things. The roan was more accustomed to those who guarded themselves and cast a variety of barriers to keep out any curious passer-bys. But despite the freedom with which Courage answered, was it as honest as it seemed? All of what she said was true, Huyana had no doubt, but it seemed more of her past. Did such things trouble her teacher, or was she more guarded than Huyana considered?
Eyes watched the playful elements flare up and disperse upon the golden hoof. It was strange, how the manner in which the elements of Courage reflected easily her attitude. Perhaps it was always like that then. But Huyana felt an inner warning not to place too much faith in reading another’s elements. They could be easier to train to feign an emotion, they were more generalized; it could not be all the flaming grumps around here were as rough and spiteful as their elemental exterior would have them seem. ”I wish you well with your child.” Huyana nodded her head slightly, smiling honestly. She shifted her weight gently as Courage let the topic drift towards Huyana.
”Very little bores me, least of all with you.” Crania tilted to the right in her usual thinking fashion. ”It is easy to learn from you than others. You do not horde your knowledge as many do.” That and Huyana had never had a teacher. Her own mother, slain by her sire when she was a yearling never taught her much. And her sire, barely a figure within her life. She had learned to creep and crawl through the herd life with her half-brother and her foal-hood lover, Bronze Rune. All of them engrossed in the Miscreant Band Rune had composed, Huyana mostly stumbled through life, learning only as she served her diplomatic purposes in greeting new members and forming alliances. It was so strange, to not have to struggle for every scrap of information she wanted. ”Knowledge is power.” The roan replied simply, absently as her gaze watched the scenery behind Courage. The statement alone might make her sound as if she hungered for power. To an extent, she enjoyed being powerful, wielding knowledge and understanding that others may not recognize. But titles, ranks, herd-status did not appeal to her. The power she craved was not the traditional variety, it was a self-satisfying thing. ”The world is wide and full of many types of characters. Others have noticed this, and seek to exploit these various personalities through physical force or mental twistings. I chose the latter; the mind is much more delicate, it has more finesse. I seek to understand everyone, everything, by learning how it all ticks, how everything is connected. Only by collecting as much knowledge as possible can I hope to unravel the tapestry we’ve been sewn into.” She sighed softly, glancing back towards the palomino. ”Connections. Knowledge is my tool to understand and use the connections existing between us all.”
[I love how playful her elements are xD]
