Darkness is thick upon the land the hour of midnight is at hand. Dazrah has not slept since the night before last and though she is loath waste time in sleep her body insists strongly that it is a necessity. After her meeting with the peacekeeper atop the bluff that overlooked the sea she made her way down the beach and galloped joyfully through the sand. Now, a mile or so from where she started her legs her beginning to protest mightily and it is likely not with in her current physical power to climb back up the bank. With a resigned sigh she begins to seek a safe place to rest for the night. Of course remaining on the sands would not be a wise choice since the tide may well come in before she wakes. Reluctantly her eyes turn from the waves and she picks her way further down the beach until she comes upon the cave.
It is a large opening that looms before me and I admit that I am less then thrilled about venturing in where the light of the moon barely reaches. Little choice is left to me though however much I would like to deny it I need sleep and it could easily end up as suicidal to do so out on the sands. For a short time I remain in front of the cave mouth shifting my weight from side to side and gazing indecisively into the blackness. The lack of choice remains and so with a deep breath and one more look back at the sea that I so love I take the first step inside. Pausing immediately within I wait for my eyes to adjust, they do but it helps only a little. The light in here is very much like the half light of early evening that so troubles my vision.
After pausing long enough to adjust to the changing light the nearly white mare advances slowly each step taking her deeper into the cave, deeper into the darkness. Water sloshes against her fetlocks as she slogs through the stagnant and dank puddles on the dirt floor. It seems to take an eternity for the back of the cave to come into view and she stumbles nearly falling as she comes to a place where the floor begins to rise. Climbing upwards now she reaches the very back where the dryness of the walls suggests a margin of safety from the reaching of the tide within this cave. A bone deep weariness catches up with her completely now and it has gone beyond weariness to utter exhaustion. Another might think twice about dropping into a defenseless state in the confines of a cave on the shores of a foreign land but Dazrah has trouble thinking ill of others and she certainly has no real reason to fear the residents of Solira. Besides even if others know of this small and private place it is unlikely that they will come to it in the dead of the night. With that last thought she collapses into an ungraceful heap asleep and dreaming before her body is fully lowered to the ground.
