I thought Hampton was home coming that year. If memory serves me (sometimes I have a bad case of CRS), Hampton marched down the field using a series of "button hook" plays. Short yardage but then the end would go out of bounds to the side line and stop the clock. Our defense never read that offense correctly. And the game became tied very late in the 4th quarter. Heavy sigh!
The PA game was the one with Buster O'Brien and Charlie Carr. They pulled the fake field goal attempt with Buster holding and Charlie kicking. The fake came when Charlie did the passing. T'was a game to remember. And yes, both teams were undefeated going into that game. Sigh! Field goal attempts were rarely heard of in high school football at that time. I believe PA was the only team regularly attempting them.
Just checked my old annuals. The PA game was in 63. The Hampton game was in 64 and they tied with 30 seconds remaining on the clock.
IN 64, Wilson played Ferguson at Homecoming and won 39 - 19. In 63 it was Ferguson also for homecoming: Wilson 30 - Ferguson 6.
Told ya I had a case of CRS.
