As Dave did, I think I found the same book he mentions by googling Portsmouth Country Club. The book is dated 1952 but was written as part of a federal project. Anyway, the book mentions the Portsmouth Country Club as being just west of the old city limits just off of High Street. The golf course was nine holes and the green fees were listed as $0.25 for 9 holes and $0.40 for 18. The City Park course was also listed and had the same green fees. Kinda pricey, huh?
