It was a gratuitous revelation in that he said something we all know to be true, anyway. Everyone falls short of the righteousness of God. That's humility, not pride.
Nothing "thought-provoking" to me about his views at all. I thought them, and him, silly. Still do. Nice? yes. Kind? Yes. Good? Yes. But silly.
President Carter's view of religion is his view. Not everyone's else.
As for "running against Carter", as another has recently posted, That, too, is one man's view. Many would argue that, with Reagan at least, Republicans ran on a revived philosophy of true conservatism, rather than "against" anyone or anything.
Who is "Rusy"? Rush? If U listen to Rush, he repetitively denies this, going back at least a year.
I always love it when someone speaks "for" someone else without first EVER listening to what that second person is actually saying...
