No matter what you call it, I still know what you're talking about (although we never called it P-Town in the "old days". The origin of it doesn't bother me...when I was a kid, the neighboring kids started calling me "DJ" as a derogatory remark (ala "Dishonest John" of Cecil the Sea Serpent fame if I remember correctly). Other people who liked me started using it and I became (proudly) "DJ" to a some of my friends. Same with "freak" in the early '70's.
Nobody can offend you with names unless you allow them to. Personally, I think of it as an affectionate name for my old home town.
Just as an aside, I thought Eddie was going to automatically delete those messages that had no e-mail and didn't use their real names. I'm pretty sure no one by the name of PTown Observer, Portsmouth, VA or Norfolk Natterer ever went to Wilson, but of course I didn't know everybody.
