No, Kemp, you've got it righter than you know. All mainstream media today is rigidly controlled by a small handful of people and corporations. We're now firmly into the era of "bread & circuses". News that we should be told in order to remain an informed citzenry is severly lacking. About the only place left to find in depth coverage on hard news is the medium you are now using to read this post.
Educated readers (and not necessarily formally educated) can discern for themselves what stories are important, and often, what stories are being hidden and buried by the old guard news organizations. This medium of the internet may not remain free for much longer, but as long as it does, it provides much more and better-covered content.
I'd like to go sideways on topic for a moment and at least express my thanks that, unlike the Michael Vick coverage, when Mr. Jackson's "final moments" are done, he will not be back to bother us further.
