I agree that no one should allow themselves to be "bullied" from this site. I admire Dennis' decision to resume his activity here.
I similarly admire and appreciate Eddie's largesse in allowing everyone a great degree of latitude in a free forum for expression.
Mr. English adds some salient points, as well, regarding the need for us all to try and remain civil.
I am a great "believer" in having "heroes", people we look up to and take example from. I have always liked the story of how the famous son of the ancient greek Xanthippos is said to have dealt with a public critic on one occasion;
It is said that one night, as he walked home from a public meeting of Athens' governing council, the great Archon and leader of Athens, Pericles, was followed all the way home by a critic who shouted the most vile epithets and insults at him for the entire journey. Throughout this entire time Pericles is said to have never so much as turned to face the man, much less to respond to him.
Upon arriving at the gate to his estate, however, Pericles is said to have addressed the guard at the gate, telling him to safely escort the man back to his own home and to see to it that no harm came to him.
This method may not always be possible, but it sometimes might be...
My best to all,
John Gray (Irish-to-the-core AND a PROUD "Greco-phile"!)
