Although Willett Hall has had its recent problems also, I am sure the City would keep this spectacular public venue even if the classroom section were to be torn down. I can't see the City putting out money to renovate the classroom/gym sections. Perhaps an outside educational organization might consider it though. Estimated cost to tear down the classroom/gym section, perform landscaping, and make necessary alternations to the exterior of Willett Hall: $10 Mil. (with escalation to year 2012). Estimated cost to renovate the classroom/gym section up to current code: $25 Mil. (with escalation to year 2012). Figures based on R. S. Means Construction Cost Data 2008, and square-footage costs.
Back in the early 1950's, facility designers were getting into the modular concept. It is evident in the old WWHS Building, as the music rooms and shops were dedicated to a wing separate from the classroom area. This particular wing would be easy to renovate and remain attached to the rear of Willett Hall.
