Well, okay; "the forseeable future" was very short.
Interesting that Gary M. began his initial post on this topic with a word definition, but gets oh, so defensive when others respond in kind. A pretty tell-tale trait.
The reason I wanted to leave the board for awhile was because I felt this whole issue was beneath the board's and the community's dignity and did not want to be further associated with it. I was and am embarrassed by the whole thing, for my and everyone's else sake---and for the school's sake. That remains so.
Having said that, however, some private feedback encouraged me to go back on my initial intention and check the board today.
Again I find people practicing that very curious human trait of "attributing what THEY think someone's else motive to be" for his words and deeds TO those words and deeds and then entering into the discussion on the basis of their own "attributions". "Amazin'!"
I understood the distinction between "give it a rest" and "shut up permanently" Mr. Black, but thanks for enlightening us all on that score. I chose to leave for awhile for the reasons just stated, above, not because I was "cloudy" on THAT score; but, again, thanks.
Some battles are not worth fighting. Others, sometimes, we might feel to be beneath our dignity. Both of these concepts initially seemed to me to apply here.
Further, Gary M.'s post came on a day in which a profoundly upsetting personal tragedy was playing out in my own Life (capitalization deliberate) and so caught me on, perhaps, not my "best" day.
Consequently, my initial belief that this battle is not worth fighting has been re-evaluated. And changed.
I still grieve that future generations of Wilson alums might have to be exposed to this sorry, toxic affair---but have decided to re-enter the fight should Gary M., the good Doctor, or anyone else wish to continue the fight.
That said, my preference for reasons already enumerated above would be to second Mr. Mutter's opinion that this whole thread should be excised for its toxicity and stupidity.
And, in tandem with Mr. Sturdevant's earlier entry, might I say directly to Gary M.; If you are going to accuse someone of a breach of ettiquette, at least have the good ettiquette, yourself, to spell the term correctly."
I noted that, in reply to a similar crticism earlier, directed at you, you made all sorts of excuses why you erred. It might be helpful to learn to excuse a little more generously, the errors of others. Just a thought..
Mr. Mutter, Mr. Spiers and Mr. Sturdevant especially; Help from unexpected sources in every case. You are good men in my estimation. I am humbled. And I thank you.
My best to ALL.
John Gray
