Thanks for the great contribution here, Dwight.
I remember Mr. Laguta once saying that he had been a Golden Gloves heavyweight boxer while in the Navy & I know of at least 3 other occasions in which he, literally, fought for his students. Your account of his having done this for you is a new addition to this collection.
His willingness to do such things is part of why we ALL loved him.
I remember that whenever he spoke of Mr. Ruzek, when I was around to hear it, anyway, he always spoke of him positively.
I recall that at Harry Hunt we had an aging lady teacher, Miss Lively was her name, as I recall; I remember on one Valentine's Day I saw Mr. Laguta carrying a nice bouquet of flowers to Miss (Mrs.??) Lively's room, because, as he said, "on THIS day, EVERY woman should receive at least one bouquet of flowers." Typical of the man, tough as a nut---but a man of great sensitivity and love and compassion at the same time. A truly "GREAT" man...
Thanks again,
John Gray
