VIRGINIA BEACH - Three days shy of her 75th birthday, Margaret C. "Peg" Poole, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully Feb. 14, 2008, in a Texas nursing home with her son at her side. She was the daughter of the late Edward R. and Pearl W. Hughes.
Peg was born and raised in Portsmouth and was a June, 1950 Woodrow Wilson High School graduate.
A creative and superb seamstress, Peg delighted in sewing for her family and friends. She managed several local fabric shops before the onset of multiple sclerosis more than 35 years ago. Peg served as a volunteer coordinator for Virginia Beach Meals on Wheels for many years before recently moving to Texas after living in Virginia Beach for nearly 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna L. Jellerson of Virginia Beach; a son, R. Howard Shawn of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren, Dena C. Barr and Carrie L. Shawn of Virginia Beach, Justin H. Shawn and Stephanie C. Ray of Dallas, Aaron Carter and Sarah Shaw of Keller; two great-grandchildren, Makayla Barr and C. David Barr II of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Jack R. Hughes of Blue Ridge, Va.; and Ray E. Hughes of Chesapeake; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Ruth Harrel of Suffolk.
In lieu of flowers, donations, may be made to Virginia Beach Meals on Wheels, 3750 Sentara Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23452, or a favorite charity. Arrangements are being handled by Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas. Burial in Colonial Grove Cemetery, Virginia Beach, on Monday will be private. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the staffs of Chesapeake Place and Emerald Hills Nursing Home in North Richland Hills, Texas.
