"The Lefthander" went to coach the Univ. of Maryland announcing his intention to transform the Terps into "The UCLA of the East" in college basketball; and nearly did, turning them into a perrenial nat'l title contender. His teams in the early-to-mid 1970's, featuring Tom MacMillan, Mo' Howard and the great Len Elmore were as good as any of that era.
Lefty is an American Original and is one of Tidewater's own treasures in the world of sports and I hope he will always be remembered and appreciated. Lefty was one of the greatest coaches in the greatest sport of all time...
Even way out here in Tucson, Az., it is always good to read "...notes from a frayed white cuff" (I hope I rendered that correctly). Thanks for posting the Lefty piece on our message board Mr. Leffler...a great trip down memory lane...
