Little things lead to big things...John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach at UCLA whose teams won 10 national titles in a 12 year span, including 7 in a row at one point, has credited wearing the right socks with the rest of their playing attire as one of the important elements in UCLA's run to greatness in that sport; He says that he always chose the team's socks & did not leave it to the individual players to choose for themselves as he wanted to make sure their socks were of the best quality in order to prevent feet from getting blistered late in games, resulting in poor play & missed opportunities.
Yes, it could be said to be "just a stupid tee shirt". Then again, the PRECEDENT being set might need to be considered here, as well...
Often people will try to start with seemingly little things to start chipping away at issues of far greater importance than what first seems to meet the eye, hoping that many will "just let the small stuff go". But, often, "on further review" the issues at stake are not small, indeed.
In the Germany of 1929-1933, many were willing to "let the small stuff go" because, after all, people were going back to work, inflation was coming down dramatically, there was a measure of social stability re-emerging and a new national pride was beginning to blossom. Best of all, in the minds of many, there was a new order about to come into being and anyone opposed to the program must have been some sorta' cretin, or reactionary, or neanderthal...or untermenshen.
Little things lead to big things and much was at stake here far beyond a mere tee shirt.
