In fact, several states have State Records that were caught by ice fishermen. We have caught both pure and tigers from the Potomac when the water is as low as 35F. Look for tigers in shallow coves with emerging weeds right after ice out. This can be particularly good if the lake is stocked with hatchery trout (Lake Needwood, Piney Run, Blairs Valley). Until the water begins to get too warm, trout remain shallow, even when over deep, main lake areas. Good Luck.
