Here's a tip from the Musky Hunter board by Jim Saric - it's about fishing open water:
I tend to scout the basin adjacent to the largest flat in the lake. It seems the bait can be located in that area and the muskies often suspend off the large flat. Another area to check in any basin is for areas where the basin gets narrower or turns, especially in windy conditions. These areas tend to concentrate muskies. As far as lures, I am generally using minnowbaits, jerkbaits and deep running crankbaits. Fish them in an erratic fashion and you should score.
