Posted by Blight on 9/18/2004, 12:45 am, in reply to "Re: A shame" Anyhow, I was never born with a silver spoon in my mouth and had to pretty much work for whatever I got. It was rare for me to get a good deal on anything. The fact that I survived and am able now to make it on my own (well me and my GF), without the kindness of strangers.. and being that I'm terribly lazy, I think that anyone should be able to do it. So, I don't think twice about passing the bum without giving him my spare change and it's actually rather difficult for me to go out of my way for anyone. I do feel bad sometimes, but I have an inherent distrust of strangers. I don't go out of my way for strangers, and I think it's because I've never relied, or asked strangers to go out of their way for me (well maybe not never, but certainly rarely). So, maybe I'm lucky in that aspect and take advantage of that luck, but I think self-reliance is a good trait. Anyhow, I'm sure the lady was appreciative enough of your offering, especially when most people would just look the other way.
