Disability Medical Exam

I received a phone call from the VA yesterday wanting to schedule a "disability medical exam" I filed a claim for disability (Parkinson's) in 2015 which was of course denied. Shortly after receiving the NOD, I retained legal council (Chisholm Chisholm and Kirkpatrick) to represent me. I'm a little curious about this exam and wondering if anyone here can shed any light on it. |
1. I find it interesting that the VA contacted me directly and not my attorney. Isn't it customary that once a person is represented by legal council that communications go through council not directly?
2. The exam is not taking place at the local VA Hospital but rather at the Des Moines Federal Building.
3. I monitor a number of Thailand Veteran's message boards, and I have never heard anyone mention a "disability medical exam" being a part of the appeal process. Is this customary or something any of you are familiar with?
4. If you are familiar with this as part of the process, is there anything you can tell me about what to expect or to prepare for?
Thanks, Bill Lorenz
