Hi there, I'm in Thailand with my father who served with the 474th TFW Takhli. We're in Bangkok and thinking about visiting Takhli. Has anyone been recently? We've been trying to find some info on the base today but are having trouble finding anything. Any info would be much appreciated. Hope that you are well.

Abby, I was with the 474th in the original group that came from Nellis in Sep/Oct 72. I went back to Takhli several years ago. Thais had a sq of F-5s there then, but probably no more. As for things your father might remember; Thai BX still standing and home to several Thai families, Chapel still standing and home to Thais, Hq Bldg still standing and Thai Sq HQ. Not much else to see. Every thing else we knew long gone, taken as salvage. That is about the sum and total of it. Apparently now there is almost 0000 left. My visit to NKP resulted in the same, really 0000. Udorn is still operational but know little about it since I only visited. My best to you and your father. Joe Skelton

Hi all, Happy 2015 and respects to all who served. Was just informed that the Takhli base/airfield will apparently be opened on Thai Children's Day - next Saturday 10 January. As per Joe's comments above, I suspect not much to be seen, but a good opportunity to get entry without all the official paperwork. The RTAF info phone number at the airbase 056-261-071 (Thai speakers only).
