Re: Frustrated"
My husband was stationed at Takhli during the mid 60's. Within 3 years he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Type II diabetes and suffered a two heart attacks the week he died. The top movement specialist in Maine who had once worked for the VA stated in his professional opinion this was connected to exposure to the herbicides used at the base. We started the disability process but quickly ran into roadblocks. The Veterans Agent we worked with has seen numerous cases the same as my husband's. Paperwork was typically overlooked/mishandled when mechanics were sent over to Vietnam short term to work on aircrafts. Without a paper trail it is impossible to prove any of these airmen ever set foot in the country. One of the Veterans Agent was very upfront this is all based on funding. I have spoken with our Congressional delegation and frankly they are clueless to the bigger picture. I couldn't make a difference when my husband was alive but I am gearing up for an advocacy campaign. Until this somehow gets public attention nothing is going to change.
