Re: 355FMS (AGE Shop) 1965-1966
Harvey: I remember going to the mail room--when it was still in the Green Monster and there was a Banded Krait slithering down one of the mailroom isles. I remeber riding the "Baht bus" to town--don't know we made it--talk about overloaded. Pedicab rides for a Baht that suddenly rose to 5 Baht because of the GI's. Silk shirts for $1.25 that rose to over $3--metal chow hall trays, bugs and all other sorts of who knows what crawling across your feet in the theater. Ten cent beer or soda at the club, monsoons--rain so hard you couldn't see 20 ft and 30 minutes later you'd never know it rained. Watching the base grow so fast--construction everywhere. There were 3 bars when I got there in Jul 65--Tom's, Takhli Hut and the American Bar--when I left in Jul 66 there wer 38--I know--because I visited everyone the night before I left! Cheap Seiko watches, star sapphires and all other assorted jewelry for bargain prices. Maybe this will jog others memories and we can see what they remember. Bob
