I also remember when I first got to Takhli in January 1969, we had a guy working in the 355th maintenance offices named "Smitty" (sorry, can't remember his full name). He was so happy to be going home, he would greet you every day with a big smile and the words "Smitty is short!" He even had a stamp made up and for months afterward, we found "Smitty is short!" stamped on the bottom of staplers, hole punches, tape dispensers and inside binders, on sheets of blank paper (in the middle of the bundles of course), on the back of clipboards, etc. It was hilarious and helped to relieve the tension of everyday work long after he was gone when you came across one of his stamps :).
