I worked out of the 355th AMS while serving at Takhli in 69-70. One night I discovered the secret ingredient that made the AMS coffee in the building special. It tasted pretty good. There was a small room in the AMS building where they had coffee brewing in a large coffee percolator, a cooler with cokes and local Spanish peanuts you could buy cheap. A local Thai national ran the little coffee bar. One night I stopped in to get a cup of coffee or a coke and saw the guy lifting steamed rice bugs (looked like giant roaches) out of the top of the coffee maker. He had been using it to steam his supper buy putting the live
rice bugs on top of the coffee grounds and let the coffee maker steam them to perfection-----------YUM!. Who knows how long he had been doing that. He got yelled at but he probably kept doing it on other days when no one was looking. AMS was probably not the only unit that had this special treat. Maybe Folgers should come out with coffee with added rice bug flavor. It would be a big hit with Takhli vets.
