We're looking for is anyone that could possibly have known or remember Bob Saffel. Bob "Saff" Saffel graduated basic flight school at Bryan AFB in 1957, he made 1st Lt. 26 March 1959. He was a member of graduating class 57-N at Bryan. We have pictures with him in a squadron photo in front of an F-86 F model, and believe he flew F-100's. We know for certain he flew F-105's during Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, as well as multiple Air Medals during his time in Vietnam. We also know he served with PACAF and have his patches from the 357th TFS and award write ups from the 345th TFS, both units led me to information on Takhli. Bob went on to a career in F-111's and served at Nellis. Additionally, Bob, then a Lt. Col., served with the 429 TFS and was the commander of said squadron in 1974 for a short period of time. The 429th was another squadron with links to Takhli. If anyone has any information on Col. (ret) Bob Saffel please aid me in helping his only blood daughter in tracking down clues to her fathers' piloting career. Col. Saffel died in 2005 after a battle with cancer, several months before I met his lovely daughter Sabrina. His daughter can be reached at sabeez@aol.com and I can be reached at tcwhisn@gmail.com
