I have just uploaded an article written by Bruce Cox - a retired two-tour Takhli vet who flew both F-105s and F-111s out of Takhli in separate tours of duty.
Read "Just Not Our Day" at:
http://www.takhli.org/docs/notourday.htm
Bruce wrote a very interesting account of his flight over Laos with Major Carl Dice on 8 Dec 1969. The aircraft, 63-832, sustained battle damage from AAA that took out all but emergency hydraulic power. Major Dice and Lt. Cox made an emergency landing at Udorn and the article will tell the story of that landing. Major Dice was killed when the aircraft overran the runway. Lt. Cox survived and continued his Air Force career - retiring in 1988 as an LTC. He currently works as a contract instructor in the F-16 program at Luke AFB.
Very interesting account and some of you may recall the incident - maybe maintained or loaded munitions on the aircraft.
Thanks very much to Col. Cox for sharing his first hand account of the combat mission and its last few moments.
