Xin Chao (Hello in Vietnamese):I'm a retired US government employee now living for the last three going on four years in Ha Noi. Looking to contact aircrews who want to share info. I am a non rated ex 0-3. I often visit the PAVAF museum here on Trong Chinh Street that has a lot of hardware you'd been interested in. Some of the locals have an intense interest in the 1960s. But most are under 30 and just trying to make ends meet. They are hopeful about the future and interested in how an ex POW as president might change the relationship between this nation and the U.S. should he become president.
Me I grew up in the USAF and an now teaching conversational English here along with a lot of other English speakers from North America and other parts of the world. It is interesting!
Did I forget to say I'm working on a novel about the war. Yep - not too original but you'd be surprised what you learn.
Trying to look objectively at all sides. Who were the real winners in the American War as the locals call it? Looking at the participation by the Soviets. If that is an interesting subject check out the google site for GRU. It is the defination of Soviet military intelligence. Established in 1918 by Lenin and today, it is still in existance. Very interesting. GRU provided the delivery, training and implementation of virtually ALL weapons used by the north and their allies. Then they carefully and successfully helped their allies get rid of all those American jets and other stuff that fell into the nice soft rice paddies of the north. It gets better. History is fascinating especially when all the pieces are not revealed at the end of the war or even decades later. Searching for answers and then finding some of them is interesting. Xin Chao! Drop me a line! Ha Noi is not too bad a place to live. Blessings, paul mcm
P.S. I'm one of those 'Born Again' Christians for anyone interested. It is much better identity than any other credit card or passport ever invented. It gets me into some interesting places. Praise God!
