I remember that F-111A crashing on the runway while it was try to take off. And I'll never forget it either. I was one of the NCO's that was tasked to do a bench check of all the Avionics that was on that F-111A for the official crash investigation. Of course we already knew that the Avionics did not cause that crash , be we had to do the testing anyway to rule out the avionics cauing that crash.
Most of the avionics looked like it was eried beyound reconition, but dispite the ugly burned to a crisp look, it all pasted every test we did on it and it worked just fine. However, since the avionics was involved in a crash, all the avionics LRU's had to be RED Tagged. Then after all the investigations were over, our F-111A Avionics Field Shop A got to keep all of the red tagged LRU's to use as our Shop Owned LRU's to aid us in testing and troubleshooting other LRU's.
So,, Yeah,, I still remember that F-111A crash on the runway as well.
