I was working midnights when this crash occured. It had an AGM78 on one inboard pylon, AGM45's on the outboards,an empty 450 on the other inboard and a 650 centerline. We watched him touch down on the highway end of the runway and initially thought he lit the Burner then realized it was the tail dragging and causing sparks. The AGM78 went off low order but still busted the front window out of the rescue helicopter sitting on the ramp. Our expedier was on his way back from the end of the runway and said the rear seater was standing on the canopy rail as it slid to a stop, we had watched the canopies go. Col Heath Bottomoly was the wing commander at the time. Some of the fire department guys got medals for saving the wreckage, which we thought was funny because when the ammo started cooking off they backed up and watched it burn. The top part of the nose was still intact I remember cannabalizing parts off of it later on. I was a Msgt at the time, night line chief for the 44TFS. we were down close to th "damn B66's. I was also at Takhli with the F-111's in Harvest Reaper I and my Wife went back to Tailand last year but the closest we got to Takhli was Shinot
