Posted by Dick Williams on 7/5/2006, 7:42:55 More recently Boardhost like all "freebies" has gone to premium plans and the free service has become more limited - now there is a limitation of 300 messages - as new messages are posted older ones fall off. I was disappointedt to learn of this and may look for some alternative board. Some of you may not yet know of the Yahoo site for Takhli vets - that is a "permanent" board with archives that stretch back about 8 years and lots of members and posts. It is a membership site - no fee but to post and read messages you do have to register and sign in - a painless step. It's also quite flexible in how you receive messages. You can get them by email individually - in daily digest form or elect to receive no email and view everthing via the Yahoo website. That forum is at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/355TFWTakhli/ and it is the main repository for Takhli stories and back and forth dialogue. The Yahoo site also hosts pictures and links so it's the mother lode of realtime Takhli web info. The Combined Website at http://www.takhli.org is more static in nature but also contains a lot of Takhli history and photos along with roster and bio entries. By the way the roster project hasn't been forgotten - but the roster guy - that's me - is behind in his duties. Everything's in queue and any entries submitted but not yet online aren't forgotten - just not yet processed into web format The Y355th TFW/Takhli Yahoo group members do a pretty good job of staying out of the area that is often the demise of such message boards - political commentary. If you're a Takhli vet or family member of a Takhli vet you're eligible to join the Yahoo group - a note on the home page explains how to do that. Any thoughts of this Board? It serves its own role in that it's open to the public - and for many serves as the first place to find out about the other Takhli online resources. The recurring expense of upping this board to one where messages would all stay online is higher than I wish to incur so I'm "shopping" for an alternative - if you have suggestions let me know. One more note. Since this is an open Board there are occasional spam and porn link messages posted here. I delete them as soon as I notice them - sometimes I'm on the road and they may stay online a few days but they come off as soon as I spot 'em. It's one nuisance endured by any open access web forum. We've used this message board hosted by the Boardhost folks for some time -it's a freebie so we get ads interwoven with the messages - small enough price. In the beginning the messages remained online essentially forever so there was an archive that went back to the first messages.
