The change won't apply to people who turn 12 or older before Sept. 1. Under the proposed legislation, personal watercraft users between the ages of 14 and 16 would be required to share the craft with someone at least 18 years old. The younger person must also have proof of age and have completed an approved boating safety education course. Christian Gullott with the Personal Watercraft Industry Association said this week the group supports the change. The association encourages a minimum age of 16 to operate a personal watercraft. The bill now goes to the full House.
