The engine of the Morehead City-based boat was completely swamped. A Coast Guard helicopter arrived at shortly after four a-m and lowered two pumps to the boat. The fishermen used rags to stem the leak. After the flooding was controlled, the boat was towed to Diamond Shoals, near Cape Hatteras. The Anna Marie's sister boat, Alice Marie, also based at Morehead City, was scheduled to rendezvous with the crews and tow the boat to Fort Macon.
