Wanchese resident Mikey Daniels admitted to being passionate about getting the sand removed from the inlet, used daily by countless commercial and recreational fishermen. He noted that people came together in 1989 to solve problems with the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge and stressed that a similar coalition is necessary to keep the inlet navigable. President George Bush's budget, recently submitted to Congress, included $7.8 million for the maintenance of Shallowbag Bay or Oregon Inlet, according to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers release.
